Edible Flower Challenge.
Every time I make a fool, I wonder why I don't make it more often. I love the mix of tangy/sweet fruit with fluffy cream! Speaking of love, this panel is inspired by the old television series "The Dating Game", which I guess dates me (ha!). The recipe is from epicurious.com.
You might think beans would taste funny in a smoothie, but they don't! Beans add a rich, filling, blast of fiber and protein! This is my favorite post-workout recovery drink. You can also try a chocolate smoothie with black beans!
FAVE MEMORY: For as long as i can remember my mom has made this absolute classic for every family celebration we have - it would not be a party if there wasn't a pavlova!! She has offered to make other things - she makes a mean trifle and is an excellent baker - but my sister and I insist on the pavlova, and our kids love it too now. It's completely delicious, surprisingly simple to make and looks really impressive on the table. Crisp meringue, with a gooey centre, lashings of cream and a mountain of fresh fruit - it's an absolute stunner. It has to be the Delia Smith recipe as mom swears by it and even the book itself holds so many memories for me.
Favourite Food Memory. An eagerly awaited treat, Mum's Party Trifle is served in a glass dish showcasing the beautiful layers of jelly-soaked swiss roll, fruit, custard and cream, topped with bright sprinkles and crowned with a cherry. As a child I loved helping to make the layers and watching the dessert take shape during the day ready for the big reveal at the party!
Make something you want to eat, but will also be the envy of your cats. Berry Taiyaki! It's essentially a sweet berry pancake made in the shape of a fish. Taiyaki comes in many flavors, but who could possibly resist some refreshing berry blends? It's very simply to make, and taiyaki pans are easy to buy online or at your local Asian grocery market. (keep those furry kitchen helpers out of the way though, or you might be missing a few taiyaki!)
Fav Memory-My favorite childhood memory is picking blackberries with my family. Mom would give us each a pot and we would pick one and eat three! Afterwards my mom would take them back to the kitchen and would make blackberry cobbler the smell of it baking was so good! It was and still is my all time favorite. I would walk by and get a spoon and take bites every time I walked by. We lived in a 100 year old log cabin and the blackberry bushes in the meadows nearby were thick so there was so many of them. My mom would make jam with them also. Unfortunately there is a bad memory involved also. The bushes harbor nasty little bugs called chiggers and I can remember many times being covered in calamine lotion for a week and scratching myself raw. It was all worth it though! Blackberry cobbler is the best!!
