A simplified and vegnaized North Indian recipe adapted from vegrecipesofindia.com. Tadkas are an easy and fun way to add flavour to an otherwise bland dish. Keep in mind that this does take a long time - start soaking the dal at least 3 hours before you want to eat.
paper sculpture of chives. i use paper i've collected over many years for the sculptures. as you can tell from this one, some has type on it. i like the idea of showing that the paper has been reused from a previous life.

As a kid there were only a few things that I really, really disliked... Pumpkin soup was definitely one of them ;)
It wasn't until I was in my twenties that a really good friend made me a pumpkin coconut soup. I hardly dared tasting it, but when I did I just loved it!
After that moment I started trying to make my own pumpkin soup, just the way I liked it. Creamy but without chunks, with a rich and spicy flavour.
This soup is my all-time favorite; easy and quick once you're done cutting up the pumpkins and everytime I make it I get asked for the recipe ;) It's also vegetarian and vegan friendly (check your vegetable stock though to be absolutely sure) and combines easily with quick bites and a variety of dishes.
