Walking through a meadow has always been such a source of delight, but these special wildflowers can nourish our bodies as well as our minds.
They add flavour to salad and soups, can be brewed into teas and tinctures, and add colourful blossoms to salads dishes.
Learning more about the flowers that grow around me has given me a greater appreciation of the plants we share our world with.
It’s important to forage responsibly, sustainably, and always follow the mantra - if in doubt, leave it out.
Let’s make the most of our vegetables and take a fresh look at what you might just already be growing in your garden.
Punch up your pantry with oils and vinegars infused with basil and broccoli flowers, toss pretty chives in with your salad, add sweet liquorice flavours with fennel to soups and sauces, deep fry your courgette flowers, and finally, don’t forget to treat yourself with sugared pea flowers!
Just when you thought these plants couldn’t be more good to us!
There is no doubt eating a rainbow is healthy for you, but don’t forget to eat local for the health of our planet too!
It’s always tempting to look to the exotic or tropical when eating a more vibrant plate, but I wanted to celebrate more local produce, including delicacies such as milkcap mushrooms, padrón peppers and yummy calçots, with many icons inspired directly by my own little garden.
