For this Play Along (It’s All Greek to Me) I immediately thought of Greek yogurt… I eat it almost daily and as a fermenter myself I also thought of the history/discovery/culturing process. This illustration is my little way of honoring all the people who have and do contribute to yogurt making!
I’m back with another Greek recipe. And yes it’s yogurt once more.
Fresh cucumber and dip, make for a very cool summer dip.
We have our version of this in India, it’s called a “Raita”, will share this too sometime.
Honestly, I’ve never been to Greece.
Greece to me has been its art, culture, philosophy, Homer’s Odyssey, etc. it’s cuisine never even crossed my mind till now.
Browsing the web for Greek food, I found many delicious recipes I would love to try.
Of these the Yiaourti me Meli sounded simple, healthy and it has my favourite ingredient - curd!!!
I was literally getting hungry as I drew this, and since I am in need of new dishes to make for family dinners, this is a must-make for me now! Anybody else inspired to make moussaka? (P.S. I just made it and it was delicious! It will now be a staple in my rotation. Thanks, They Draw & Cook, for the inspiration to draw and cook this satisfying and tasty dish.)
India is a country filled with such a diverse cuisine.Biryani is a famous Indian dish that is made for special occasions. My family is from Hyderabad, so we have our own twists to make our food, and of course, no one makes it better than my mom! Even though there are a lot of ingredients, it's a dish that is worth making, it brings together family, friends, and loved ones in a comforting way.
Malayali food has a special place in my heart and the Onam Sadya has always been the yearly delight I eagerly wait for. This grand meal is served on a banana leaf and can have up to 30 items sometimes. Last year due to the lockdown, we decided to cook this meal on our own and managed to put together 20 things, much to our delight. To prepare for this, I usually skip (or have a very light) breakfast to have enough space in my tummy to devour all the delicacies, Can't wait for the festival to come around again.
I am not gonna lie - I love sweets more than I should, but when I found this recipe my relationship with waffles went totally new direction! I love them with pouched eggs or avocado (or both!) on top with a nice cup of oat latte. Perfect breakfast!
This recipe is by wonderful foodie Gabriele from @pusryciams on instagram and I am sure I will illustrate more of her food inventions here. Thanks, Gabriele!
When I read the topic „my happy meal” for the play along, I had this dish in my head immediately. It is very seasonal as blood oranges are only available here for about two months. So in early February I ordered blood oranges, pink grapefruits and kumquats as well. On a whim I threw them together and it has become a treat I look forward to every delivery (and now the next ten months). Grapefruits, blood oranges and kumquats are complimenting each other’s taste. Add some walnuts and a dollop of greek yoghurt and you have a firework of sweet, tangy, a little bit bitter, crunch and creaminess. Besides the awesome taste I enjoy turning the brightly colored fruits into this dessert so much that after cutting, peeling and filleting I am always smiling, happy and a little high on colors, textures and aromas.
The recipe is my mom’s. Made with hung curd and tempered with mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves...finely chopped onion, green/red chillies....fresh coriander...
Just spread on a toast and you’ve got a wonderful healthy snack...
