I was inspired by the bounty of fresh produce that I can find at my local Farmers Market. Add in some pantry staples and you have a wonderful and flavorful summer bounty salad. You can swap out the protein for tofu and have a totally vegetarian meal.
Shirazi salad (Persian: salad shirazi) is a popular traditional Iranian salad that originated from and is named after Shiraz in Southern Iran.
Its primary ingredients are cucumber, tomato, onion, olive oil, herbal spices and verjuice, although lime juice is sometimes used in its preparation but verjuice is the right ingredient. In Iran, it is eaten in the summer as a side dish on its own, and year-round as a side dish alongside meat-based foods such as kebab, and as a side dish before and after meals .
You’ll love how simple it is, yet so bright and packed with flavor!
Tangy , full of crunch , protein and texture, this salad is a much loved recipe at my house. I loved illustrating this recipe digitally. The borders feature Indian designs called Rangoli/kolam that are decorative drawings done in rice flour or colored powder to adorn the entrances of homes. When done in rice flour, these designs become food for little creatures like ants.
This was done as a demonstration for my Materials and Techniques class at SCAD Atlanta. I've had several classes create illustrated recipes for TDAC but I've never actually completed one before, and it was great fun! The technique is watercolor and colored pencils on 300# hot press watercolor paper with touchups in Photoshop. I "borrowed" the recipe from https://cafedelites.com/ because it just sounded so delicious. I haven't made it yet, but it's definitely happening soon. Enjoy!
Caprese Salad, a classic summertime salad, was created in the 50s in Capri and should always be dressed with a drizzle of EVOO only! Balsamic vinegar would destroy the delicate flavor of the cheese. And use only the finest ingredients since it's such a simple salad!
