A hearty and delicious soup. Perfect for the fall and winter, but great any time of the year! Vegans and vegetarians can omit the bacon, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth, and it's just as delicious! Serve with a side of fresh bread.
A local Cincinnati favorite and a favorite in my family too, this is the dish my brother and I both ask for whenever we come home to visit. When I become vegetarian some years ago, my mom and I found a way to make it veggie without sacrificing texture or flavor; in my opinion, this version tastes even better than the original!

I got this recipe many years ago from a colleague and friend and it's been a standard dish ever since in our family. Not exactly sure how this type of pumpkin is called in english, I found many different terms: red kuri squash, sugar pumpkin or Hokkaido pumpkin (that's how we call it in germany).
My grandma's macaroni salad recipe; a childhood favorite and one I would request whenever I returned from college or studying abroad and still ask for on my birthday. According to my grandma, it's even magical... Legend has it, she once gave the recipe to a young lady who was hoping to get a marriage proposal from her boyfriend. They went on a picnic, she served the salad, and sure enough, he popped the question right then and there.
