My family has made pasties for years. My Grandma was born in the UP in Michigan, so this turned into a tradition in our family. When Cornish miners migrated to Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the 1800's, they brought with them their beloved national dish: the pastie. The Finnish miners that followed adopted these meat pies as their own (easily transportable for long subterranean days!),
As part of the recipe assignment from RISE, DESIGN, and SHINE - Here in the Midwest we have a version of Goulash that is unique to our part of the country. This is our family's original recipe, but you'll find that there are many versions similar to this. It's amazing comfort food!
