One of Mom's many famous deserts was her individual Baked Alaskas. She usually made them with French Vanilla ice cream (Dad's favorite), but I thought it would be fun to pair the pineapple and coconut with raspberry ice cream instead.
The Pacific Northwest (USA) is a very sociable place; gatherings with friends and family outdoors are common. Lawn games, hikes and other outdoor activities feature. Here's a dessert treat I often make for such events - a cool refreshing, though messy, treat to be enjoyed outside. One of our very young family friends calls "cantaloupes" - the melons - "antelopes" - which brings all kinds of wordplay to my mind. So I've playfully adjusted the melon spelling accordingly because "Antelopes and Ice Cream" is too.... well, never mind.
When fresh strawberries and blueberries are in season here in the Pacific Northwest "Sloppy Milkshakes" is our preferred quick and easy treat. What makes these milkshakes "sloppy" is that no blending (or use of a blending machine) is required. Sometimes I only cut up the biggest strawberries and leave most of the berries whole.
