This is a super classic and rustic recipe from Tuscany. The name means "beans in the style of little birds." I discovered it when I was studying there and loved the simple ingredients! Traditionally you'd use dried beans, but I'm too impatient for that!
Almost every home in Dominican Republic prepares this traditional dessert at least once during Lent. And because it is always made in large quantities the custom is to share with friends and family especially during Holy Week.
This is my go-to lunch. It was inspired by the original salad in a jar post at LifeHacker.com, when I am making everyone's lunch in the mornings, I usually make one for me as well, even if I am working from home, because then it is ready, and I don't spend a lot of time staring blankly into the fridge instead of getting work done.
