We live in Maine, and picnics at the beach are just the best! (minus the mosquitos)… Before all this craziness, we used to go fairly often, especially in the fall, sometimes even in the winter with a thermos of hot tea...

Gather what's ripe in the garden, a blanket, vintage milk glass vase for wildflowers, your straw hat, and some cool drinks and find a pretty field midsummer. If you're lucky, a red-winged blackbird will join you on the rustic fence while the sunflowers and morning glories bloom amongst the rustling corn.

Picnic Broccoli Salad is a family favorite and is required at every summer picnic. The crunchy broccoli and tangy dressing pair wonderfully with the saltiness of the crumbled bacon and sweetness of the white raisins. Enjoy!

What would a picnic for wee little ones look like without adults around? These munchkins are having a blast playing with food and have some animals joining their fun picnic. I was reminded of my daughter’s early years when she would fuss over any food we fed her, but would happily eat what we gave her if we left her alone with food. She would play with food and create a royal mess for me to clean up, but she would end up eating. I drew some of her favorite snacks/ food when she was a wee little one 😀

Let’s face it, the stay-at-home orders have made date night an even bigger challenge to plan than usual. Desperation feeds creativity - try a romantic picnic! There are so many things one could do to make a picnic date feel special. I hope my artwork gives you a few ideas.

I love to enjoy a picnic, on a sunny day, with sandwiches, fruits and a good wine with a cheese board . A bowl of fruit is not bad for a summer afternoon! And a dessert to end the evening is delicious!

Picnic challenge.

Who doesn't love a picnic...in winter! We packed a fabulous picnic for a trip on the Agawa Canyon Snow Train. The other passengers were noticeably jealous. Dad tried to appease them by offering to share his then-wife's ham roll-ups; however, he wasn't successful in his efforts. When I look at photos from that day, I'm surprised that we were successful in stowing the cooler in the floor space. Who knows where our feet were during the whole trip!
