Just discovered this drink this Christmas: it is tasty, a touch of sweetness, bright with fresh lime juice! Perfect to get you through a winter storm. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on Ginger Beer from Maine Root, it will have a nice kick of ginger too. Cheers to the New Year!
This is a recipe we like to make every year from a 1950's publication. It indicated it made 3 dozen and cost .93 cents! I retained the actual ingredients in the recipe to reflect the era of the recipe. However, the corn syrup can be substituted with 1 tbsp. each of honey and maple syrup. The cat under the tree is our boy Zorro who loves the magic a Christmas tree brings. Happy Holidays!
This was a classic dessert when I was a child. Rumtopf is a big earthenware pot that is filled with all kinds of fruits over the summer. To conserve the fruit they are mixed with sugar and covered with strong rum. Usually it starts with strawberries and ends with apples and pears somewhere late October, early November. Once all the fruit is added, it needs to mature another 4-8 weeks before it can be served. This made it the perfect Christmas dessert and gift.
This year I made one myself and am very curious how it will turn out.
