I loved reading Enid Blyton's Famous Five series when I was younger, and relished the descriptions of their picnics. Homemade scones, lashings of ginger beer and delicious sandwiches featured frequently, and even the humble hard-boiled egg took on some extra flavour when these friends sat down to eat with each other.
