Here's my entry for the Let's Have a Picnic challenge :) Where I spend most of my summer, we take every opportunity to have a beach picnic. Lots of kids, laughter, a cool dip, whatever is in season at the nearby farms, bubbly and beer, cheese of course, and if we're lucky, the most gorgeous sunset.
Fave Memory: My Dad – an excellent cook – did most of the cooking in our house, and this was a favourite hearty lunch or dinner with some nice crusty bread and cheese. He rarely followed a recipe, though – just went by instinct and experience. We lost him earlier this year and I still can't believe I can't just call him up and confirm the ingredients or instructions – so this is to the best of our recollection. He loved everything to do with the sea and I can't think of another dish that reminds me more of my Dad.
In our 20s, my sister and I used to do a lot of long distance bike camping, and our go-to cooking method amounted to “wrap it up in tin foil and throw it in the fire!” This breakfast my sis invented is GENIUS. Multigrain bagel for fibre, apple for ... fibre as well, I suppose, and chocolate caramel for fun!
