Beans around the World...Ahoy Matey! This recipe is said to be from the mid 1800’s, from a staple of “Yankee” real cooking, Durgin-Park in Boston, sadly now closed, but I have the recipe from a visit a few years ago. The Best baked beans ever, deep brown, and delicious! The key is, you have to keep them moist over the six hours of baking, adding water slowly, as the recipe says, “you can’t just let the pot sit in the oven’...and don’t flood the beans! You can leave the pork out, I never use it and half the sugar...you won’t be disappointed! A simple & perfect comfort dish on damp, grey days to warm your soul, and hey, they are “Navy” beans after all😝
I don’t really celebrate birthdays, but I do try to get to the Atlantic on my birthday, which sadly, doesn’t happen every year. So this is my dream birthday celebration, I’ve had it a few times overlooking the Atlantic, but never “on” the beach! I wouldn’t even mind these uninvited ‘beach” guests....the more the merrier! Celebrating my favourite foods on my birthday, lobster roll, carrot cake & the one & only, courage in a glass, the esteemed Long Island Iced Tea! perfection!! and all food tastes better with beach sand in it, and a salty spray on it!
This is hand-drawn, ink, watercoulours & coloured pencils! I think it’s the perfect beach picnic, even if it’s not your Birthday, and in my opinion, every day at the beach should be celebrated!
Eat a Rainbow in your pasta bowl! The simplest of ingredients, fresh peppers, tomatoes, basil, olives & garlic. To me it is the best pasta sauce, colourful & healthy ingredients, chop & sauté, add just a dash of cayenne & I’m good to go! I can’t wait for Summer to get here, so we can taste this again, really is anything better? “Eat pasta, play fasta!”
I love activities, cycling, kayaking, running & motorcycling, I love nature! and I love to play hard, and that takes a lot of energy!! The best “fuel” for your body is fresh, whole foods...nuts, fruit, veggies....lots of colour in, means lots of energy out. Feed yourself well, and enjoy all that life has to offer! I just thought it would be fun to present a landscape as food, broccoli forests, asparagus trees & almond, pistachio stones by the blueberry rapids in the river! better than “Big Rock Candy Mountain’.
This is my favourite breakfast, fresh fruit chopped in pieces, whatever is handy and available. A favourite mix for me is blueberries, pomegranate, navel oranges, a granny smith apple & a few banana slices! lots of colour, and the perfect way to start the day! and I love eating it from my special blown glass! and then drinking the juice that remains once the fruit is eaten! energized & ready to tackle the day! get your shine on!
