Bio:

Joanna Barnum is a Baltimore area illustrator and fine artist whose expressive watercolor style stretches across several genres, including conceptual portraiture, narrative illustration for children and adults, wildlife and culinary illustration, and illustrations celebrating Baltimore and Maryland themes. She also paints fine art watercolor portraits of people, pets, and homes for private clients and exhibits her work locally and nationally.

Illustration clients include UMBC Magazine, Austin Food & Wine Festival, North American Review, Cricket, Eating Well, and numerous small presses and local businesses. Joanna has had her work honored as “Chosen” illustrations by American Illustration in 2010 and 2012, was included in the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles's Illustration West 51 exhibit, and her work was included in The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration from Anova Books in 2009.

Joanna earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she majored in illustration and minored in art history. She is an accredited member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, and is a signature member and board member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. She teaches watercolor through Carroll Community College.
