Agnes Schugardt is a surface designer and illustrator specializing in creating whimsical pieces that have a life of their own through the use of colour, shape and texture. Schugardt blends personal experience and pieces of the everyday: real life and imaginary.
Born in Poland, raised in Canada and New York State, Schugardt was educated at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and Studio Berçot in Paris with a BFA in Fashion Design and Textiles. She worked in New York City’s fashion industry for 10 years as a pattern and graphic designer at various companies, including Donna Ricco and Magaschoni. In Toronto she has freelanced for Hudson’s Bay Company and Joe Fresh as well as creating and maintaining a technical department for hosiery company Gertex where she worked with numerous licensors such as Nickelodeon, NHL, CFL and Mattel.
She has taught colour theory, fashion illustration and design. She has also taught patternmaking and classes in Adobe Creative Suite .
Recently Schugardt has broken out on her own to create her own original patterns and illustrations. Tapping into the folk art from her own heritage as well as from around the world to create unique illustrations and patterns that reflect her path and travels.
