They Draw And Cook Breaks New Ground in Online Food Space with Fully Revamped Website

World’s premier illustrated recipe site adds features to enhance artwork presentation, increase interactivity, bolster functionality and cultivate community around recipes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 15, 2011 -- Popular illustrated recipe blog They Draw and Cook, a creative fusion of art, cooking and social media representing an entirely new, visually appealing way to experience recipes, today unveiled a fully redesigned Website. With the new site They Draw and Cook continues its rise as a groundbreaking destination for a new genre of art and food-related content fueled by a growing community of contributors worldwide.

At www.TheyDrawAndCook.com, users can browse over 1,000 recipes for main dishes, desserts, drinks and appetizers. Professional and amateur artists alike can upload their own artwork, and new illustrations are added daily. A fresh, innovative and intuitive way to experience recipes online, each They Draw and Cook creation is one-of-a-kind, drawn by artists from around the world sharing their favorite dishes and bringing them to life with personality, talent and panache. Here is an example, by Tomasz Wawer from Poland, of one of the many recipes found on They Draw and Cook:

“One reason They Draw and Cook is fun is because it is SO unlike any other recipe site out there - no ‘food porn’ photography, no clumps of same-old-same-old text,” said Nate Padavick, They Draw and Cook co-creator. “The different art styles are engaging and many of the recipes are unique and sometimes hilarious. You'd never catch a mainstream food site posting a recipe for ‘Monster Snot Pizza’, ‘Beet-Rooty-Yogurty Thingummyjig’ or ‘Starving Artist Goolash.’”

Each recipe reflects the artist’s personality, infusing story, meaning and playfulness into the artwork – and the food.

“The word that keeps popping up when people describe the site is ‘journey’,” said Salli Swindell, They Draw and Cook co-creator. “It’s true – browsing the recipes is a fun journey, and along the way you discover humor, beauty – and yumminess!”

The revamped They Draw and Cook is tailored to content consumption in the 21st century – whether browsing on a laptop, tablet or smartphone, artists and food lovers alike will find the recipes useful and engrossing. Designed by top Chicago design firm Neoteric, Inc., the site adds features to enhance presentation, interactivity and functionality of the recipes, including:
• Fully indexed, tagged and searchable recipes with a complete ecosystem of artist information, commenting and sharing options built around each recipe
• A simple submission platform allows artists to upload illustrations to the site quickly and easily
• Interactive world map: users discover an incredibly diverse range of global creations from the U.S., Ukraine, Brazil, Belgium, Japan, Croatia, the Philippines, India and everywhere in between
• Widescreen presentation: with little-to-no scrolling necessary, recipes are primed for browsing on the latest tablets, mobile devices and laptops

Artists showcased on They Draw and Cook include professional illustrators and practicing artists, while others are passionate doodlers and drawers, and some have only begun to draw. Recipes range from the simple to the complex, the classic to the exotic. A sister site, Kids Draw and Cook (www.KidsDrawAndCook.com), features the “awesome” illustrations of elementary and middle school children across the U.S.

The new They Draw and Cook features a “Year of the Fig Illustrated Recipe Contest”, with $2,000 in cash prizes sponsored by the California Fig Advisory Board. Six recipes that best portray dried figs and fresh figs as a main recipe ingredient will be chosen and awarded with $500 for 2 1st place recipes, $300 for 2 2nd place recipes and $200 for 2 3rd place recipes.

The newly launched  They Draw and Cook precedes the release of the They Draw and Cook cookbook, due in October 2011 from Weldon Owen Publishing and noted as a “title to watch” by Publisher’s Weekly.
