Recipe Review: Chicken and Fig Roll

Chicken & Fig Roll PictureThis recipe review was sent in by Renee Melo from Milan, the artist behind this great recipe illustration (see below).

"If you love salty/sweet combinations this is such an easy and delicious recipe! The fun part is to make the rolls! The toothpicks definitely help, and once baked you can easily pull them off. The secret is to rub in the salt and seasons with your hands, and prepare the tray with a bed of onions and olive oil so that the chicken won't stick to it."

"Free your mind to make this recipe your own! You can fill it with other dried fruits or vegetables.Even adding a splash of white wine or beer to it before baking, gives it moisture and a wonderful unique flavor. It is great for when you have guests, the rolls make such a good impression. And then you can brag on what a great nouvelle cook you are!"

"My mom used to make these chicken & bacon rolls basted with beer in the oven. So good but I always felt a need for something sweet in it. A friend of mine once made them filled with fruit! And I said: that's it! So I added the onions, herbs and decided on the dried figs inside and that's how this yummy recipe was born."
